Winter Happenings in the Art Room

This new block has been flying by, and we've been busy in the art room!  Here's a look at what we've been up to:

Elementary:
*Students have been busy working on our projects outlined here.  Check the hallways soon for some of their masterpieces!

Middle School:

Drawing and Painting 6/7th Grade-
Students created their own animals and learned how to create value with ink.  We are now moving on to observational drawing, where students will choose their own object and observe how to draw that object in order to make it as realistic as possible.  With this project they will also learn how to shade realistically with drawing pencils.

Mixed Media 8th Grade-
Students created animals with glue, foil, and ink the first week of class.  We are now moving on to interactive drawings where students will take a photograph and combine it with drawing techniques.  They also will work on weaving into their clay looms that they sculpted.

*ATTENTION!  2013 Art Show is coming SOON!  Please check back here and in the Wildcat Weekly for upcoming information about dates and times for the WWA Art Show.  This is a K-8 event that showcases our many talented artists here at WWA.  Your support of this event helps us recognize this talent.  Thank you!

Happy 2013!

We are starting the year off right here in the art room--with lots of creativity and projects!

Block 3 has come to an end.  Please check the hallways for some masterpieces from these classes!  All artwork will be returned to students after it comes down from display, and/or at the end of March after the WWA Art Show.

Block 4 classes begin Monday, January 14th and we will be busy creating!  These classes include:
Elementary:
K- Students will be exploring pattern with lines and shapes, and printmaking this time around.  Look for mittens, winter birds, and abstract printmaking!
1st- Students will be using line and shape, painting techniques, and color to create snowy owls.  We will also learn about the Impressionist artist Claude Monet, and create our own Impressionist landscapes.
2nd- Students will be studying the Art of Japan and begin their clay project of Koi fish.  We will also take a look at light and shadows, and create our own shadowed snowmen.
3rd- Students will be learning about Native American art, and creating their own totem pole sculptures.  We will also start our unit on Ancient Rome.
4th- Students will be discovering the intricacies of Medieval castles, and will create their own on metal.  We will also learn how to draw observationally with pen and ink.
5th- Students will do a short study of Japanese art, and create their own Japanese clay tiles.  We will also introduce our unit on the Renaissance and begin our realistic self portraits!

Middle School:
8th Mixed Media:  Students will explore a variety of different art materials, and how to combine and use them in their artwork.

6/7th Drawing/Painting:  Students will explore a variety of art and artists that work in this style.  They will learn basic techniques of both drawing and painting in creating their own work.

Looking forward to a great 6 weeks!
