Here's a look at the next 6 weeks in the art room:
Kindergarten Art
Kindergarten artists will be learning all about color this
rotation. From Primary to Secondary, to Warm and Cool colors, your
student will be a color expert when we are finished!
1st Grade Art
Who’s hungry? First grade artists are learning all
about shapes and texture, and demonstrating their knowledge into textured pizzas!
We will also be exploring a type of art called ‘still life’. These first
graders will get a chance to create their own pumpkin still lives and try
observational drawing just like many famous artists have done for
centuries.
2nd Grade Art
Not much is more beautiful than Colorado in the fall.
Second grade artists are learning about a type of art called ‘landscapes’, and
specifically how to draw and paint the famous aspen tree. We will also be
exploring collage and architecture, and creating our own city blocks.
3rd Grade Art
3rd grade artists are reviewing all they’ve
learned about shapes, color, and line in K-2 art in their radial design
project. Students are learning about radial balance and color schemes to
create these works. Also, third grade students will begin to learn about
form, light, and shadow while creating their 3D shape still lives!
4th Grade Art
We are starting 4th grade art off with a favorite
for the students—clay! Fourth grade artists will be exploring the art of
Asia, and creating clay dragons. We will be sculpting and painting these
dragons during our art time. We will also begin to study the Medieval
Times, and they will be creating their own illuminated letters after looking at
many ancient manuscripts for ideas.
5th Grade Art
5th grade students have learned about Aztecs and
Mayans, and we are learning about a historical celebration that started off in
the Aztec culture. Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is an ancient
celebration that honors those family and community members that have passed
away, and is still celebrated in Mexico and parts of the US today. We are
creating our own “Calaveras” or skulls in the style of this celebration.
We will also be looking into landscape artists of the American Westward Expansion
later on, and creating our own realistic landscape paintings.
Middle School classes:
This block I have 6th grade 3D Sculpture. We
are creating with clay our 3D postcards before they head out to outdoor
lab. We will be working with wire when they return to create some free
standing wire trees!
My other middle school class, 6/7th Drawing and
Painting, has started learning all about observational drawing. We did
contour line drawings and value studies, and are now moving on to draw our
final still life of skeletons!
